Have you been working out like crazy and eating properly…only to find that you haven’t shed a single pound? This happens more often than you’d think! Even when you make positive changes in your diet and fitness level, there may be other things that are holding you back. If you’re ready to finally start seeing results, here are 4 reasons you may not be losing weight:
1) Not Counting Those ‘Extra’ Calories
You just bought a super healthy salad for lunch with less than 200 calories in it. That’s great! But did you count the dressing? Sometimes we forget to count those extra calories. Things like condiments, salad dressings, butter on your popcorn, a fountain drink, or a handful of M&Ms on your way to work, well, they all add up. Even when you think you’re making smart choices, you may be forgetting about the small stuff. To avoid this problem, try keeping a food journal and write down absolutely everything.
2) You’re Eating Too Quickly
When you’re hungry, you probably want to devour everything in front of you. Understandable! Eating too quickly can actually prevent you from losing weight, though. How? It takes a full 20 minutes before your stomach signals to your brain that it is full. If you finished your entire meal in 10 minutes, that leaves you another 10 minutes to grab dessert, snack foods, or maybe even another drink. By slowing down a little, you get to enjoy your food more – and even lose weight.
3) Skipping Breakfast
You’ve heard it before: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Then why do so many of us try to skip out on it to save a few calories? On paper it may make sense to ditch your morning meal, but it may prevent you from losing weight. The whole purpose of breakfast is to literally break the fast that your body has been in since the night before. It gets your metabolism going and gives you the energy you need to function normally. If you really want to lose weight, try eating a protein-rich breakfast.
4) Eating In Front Of The TV or Computer
Have you ever noticed that when you eat while watching your favourite TV show or when you’re working on the computer, the food seems to vanish? This is called mindless eating. You are so focused on what you’re watching or doing that you don’t even think about the food you’re shovelling into your mouth. Simply being distracted can cause you to eat far more than you normally would. What’s worse is that you’re usually too busy to even enjoy what you’re eating! From now on, make it a rule not to eat in front of electronic devices. It will save you a lot of food guilt later on.
Are you tired of not seeing results? Then take a closer look at your lifestyle. If you’ve been accidentally overeating or not giving your all during a work out, trust me: it will show on the scale. These 4 reasons for not losing weight are just the beginning, so be aware of your day-to-day choices – and do what you can to turn things around.
