Eliminating Post-Exercise Breakouts

You just finished a seriously killer workout. Go you! You’re feeling like the superhuman warrior you are…until you pass by your bathroom mirror. Is that a pimple? Wait – is that a cluster of pimples? Where did those come from? Unfortunately, post-exercise breakouts are pretty common. They’re a result of clogged pores, thanks to the fact that you were just sweating like mad. Before you threaten to ditch your workout routine for the sake of your skin, take a deep breath. There are certain things that you can do. Eliminating post-exercise breakouts is possible, just follow these essential tips.

Forget About The Makeup

This first tip is for the ladies. Some of us are pretty much addicted to wearing makeup. Foundation, blush, mascara, eyeliner…it becomes a second skin! There’s nothing wrong with that in your day-to-day life. When you’re working out, though, makeup is a major no-no. You may want to look your best at your next class at the gym, but slathering your face with makeup won’t do your skin any favours. Makeup clogs pores, which can cause your skin to freak out after a workout. If you really want to wear something, opt for a coat or two of mascara and a mineral powder. The latter won’t clog your pores but will still give your skin a little coverage.

Blot Your Skin Often

You just finished holding the plank position for a crazy amount of time. Sweat is quite literally pouring off of you. What now? Blot your face and body with a clean (make sure that it is clean!) towel. You want to remove the sweat without irritating the skin. When your skin becomes irritated thanks to all of the wiping and pulling, it is more likely to lead to breakouts. So, be sure to blot carefully to remove any sweat. It will make all the difference!

Wear Appropriate Workout Clothes

Looking good is important, yes. It is just as important to choose workout clothes that are made from breathable materials. Natural fabrics like cotton allow your skin to breathe better, which can reduce breakouts. Synthetic fabrics on the other hand, are better at trapping moisture. That can cause breakouts all over your body. Talk about annoying! Make sure that you choose breathable, quick-dry workout clothes. There are tons on the market at all different price levels.

Wash Yourself Right After

Your workout is over and you just want to collapse for a little bit. Before you do, though, grab a gentle facial cleanser and a clean towel. It’s time to wash your face – and then jump into the shower to wash the rest of your body. It’s important to get rid of all that sweat! When you’re scrubbing up, try to avoid rubbing your skin too hard or using an exfoliator. Doing so can irritate it and cause redness or breakouts.

Post-exercise breakouts are most definitely annoying. That is why it is so important to do your best to avoid them! Give your skin a little extra consideration. If you do, you’ll be less prone to breakouts. So, you can work out to your hearts content, without sacrificing gorgeous clear skin.
